On 26th January 2017, the Faculty of Economics (FELU) hosted the 3rd Future of manufacturing and Supply Chain Excellence International conference with an emphasis on Supply Chain Planning and Analytics. Participants had a great chance to hear the latest trends and opportunities concerning supply chain systems and to engage in discussion sessions and workshops, where they exchanged experiences and thoughts about upcoming challenges, business solutions and the wider impact they may bring.

In the past, FELU has established many partnerships with the business community, which have turned out to be very fruitful. As a result, most influential supply chain experts in the field were sharing their knowledge as guest speakers at the conference.  John Koelink, COO at Bayer Animal Health, spoke on Supply Chain Risk Management 2.0.

“We supply to costumers, wholesale, wets, clinics and we have a complete different model in each country how we distribute the product towards the end costumer. The years ago, inventory was very, very important. Now, it does not make sense to keep so much inventory because in the end, you are just piling up. You can take a lot of inventory out of your supply chain. Safety stock are there to be eaten.”

Since it is a commonly discussed topic in supply chain community, Sabine Eissen, Managing Director Slovenia and Croatia at DHL Global Forwarding, presented her views on digitalization and optimization in transportation, and especially digitalization in logistics. “We all understand the importance of digitalization and that this will happen very quickly. We have a vast amount of data and I think what all of us are struggling with is to make this data relevant for our preferences and needs. We need to find tools and intelligent systems to make this data and information relevant so we can make right decisions on that.”

Two more lectures were held, first by Danijel Banek, Executive director of central purchasing at Atlantic Grupa, who spoke about Reducing the Risk of Supply Chain Disruptions. Secondly, Henning Krebs, Department Manager Transportation & Network Management at Lufthansa Technik Logistik made a presentation about Challenges of Supply Chain Design at Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services.

Different perspectives, shown by speakers and workshops leaders, surly brought many useful advices for participants as well as opened new views on the everyday challenges and provided ways to establish a stronger, more efficient supply chain community.
