On 20 June 2018, the Faculty of Economics hosted a solemn ceremony of awarding the membership certificates of the Beta Gamma Sigma Society (BGS), which aims to present the Society and the admission of new members. The Beta Gamma Sigma Society was founded in 1913, and its local department or club in Ljubljana in 2012. The Society is widespread throughout the world, and its members are the best students and graduates of business schools with AACSB accreditation, including the Faculty of Economics. BGS is an honorary Society that promotes academic excellence and provides its members with practical training and networking opportunities, paving the way for achievements in their academic and professional careers.

»Celebrate your achievements«
After the words of welcome to the new members and their relatives and friends, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Metka Tekavčič Ph.D., welcomed all present at the ceremony. She proudly presented the Faculty and emphasized the role of the Beta Gamma Sigma Club, and then warmly welcomed 76 new members who joined the club on that day and congratulated them. The Faculty of Economics is the only school in the region that enables membership in the BGS club, and the selection of students invited to the club takes place once a year. Then Dr. Andreja Kodrin, an esteemed member of the BGS Ljubljana Club and a member of the investment committee of the European Strategic Investment Fund gave some advice to new members and encouraged them to dare to dream, stressing that “the growth begins when we cross the limits of the reachable“. Finally, she advised members to never forget celebrating their achievements and enjoying their success, as they will always face new challenges.

»Joining the Society is recognition of high academic excellence«
The musical performance by Andraž Frece on accordion was followed by awarding the membership certificates. Then Katja Mihelič Ph.D., BGS Advisor, and Tilen Balon MsC, Secretary General of the Faculty, awarded new members the membership certificates and badges, thus completing the official part of the membership in the honorary Society. Firstly, members with outstanding achievements in undergraduate studies were invited to the forefront, followed by the members with achievements in graduate studies, and finally graduates of doctoral study programmes, and those who received award for their achievements for the second time. The ceremony ended with a small celebration and a light meal where the members had the opportunity to network and establish new business contacts.
