Information Day 2019: We want your decisions to be in line with your interests

Choosing a field of study is obviously a milestone in the life of a future student as they are required to decide on what they wish to do and what they will do in the future. This year, on 15 and 16 February, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana arranged its traditional Information Day, thus opening its door to secondary school students to help them make the right decision. In the programme’s framework, they were acquainted with a sample of studying and the pulse at the FELU by being given the opportunity to listen to FELU professors, staff and students, and going on a tour of the campus.

The programme started with a lecture by Prof. Dr Tjaša Redek who touched on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the meaning of robots, especially in the automotive industry, providing the concluding thought that “among professions for which demand is expected to grow rapidly in the future, there are many professions that can be studied at the FELU”. The secondary school students were then greeted and addressed by Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics. She highlighted the high-quality programmes and the FELU, which is a member of an elite group of triple-accredited international schools (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA), adding that “what we want to provide our students with is a high-quality international experience that allows them to become immersed in the international economic and broader social environment already during their studies”.

The floor was then taken by Rok Smrekar, the Vice-President of the FELU Student Council, who presented the Student Council as well as its function and activities within the Faculty. The latter are mainly aimed at preparing different extracurricular expert events intended for students. At the end, he touched on a number of student societies and encouraged prospective students to seek international experiences. This was followed by a short discussion with three current students who shared their experience with education and provided some useful tips about the study. At the end, Tilen Balon, MSc, Secretary General at the FELU, presented some valuable information about the programmes, internationalisation and enrolment.

We want all future students to make the right decision on their studies and, as the Dean added in her address, to decide in line with their interests. If they are thirsty for knowledge, creative, have entrepreneurial spirit, integrity and respect and are willing to cooperate, the Faculty of Economics is no doubt the right place for them.
