Culture and tea: Insights into traditional Chinese culture

In month March and April 2019 Confucius institute Ljubljana organized the series of events »Culture and Tea: Insights into traditional Chinese culture«. Every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., participants joined us in the Confucius classroom at the Faculty of Economics for a guided discussion about traditional Chinese culture, along with a cup of tea. With help of the Chinese teacher Wang Qian, participants were able to get to know the peculiarities of different aspects of traditional Chinese culture. A thorough lecture was followed by a practical presentation: the participants were able to experience acupuncture, tuina massage and cupping on their own skin, taste Chinese food, admire the traditional Chinese tea ceremony presentation, try out some taijiquan postures as well as try to paint some calligraphy strokes. At the first meeting on March 7th 2019, quite a few listeners joined us for an interesting lecture and a cup of traditional Chinese tea.

On Thursday, March 14th 2019 a presentation of the traditional Chinese oolong tea ceremony was held by sinology student Hana Meško.

Through the course of the events in March and April 2019, the participants were able to taste different kinds of Chinese tea.

On March 21st 2019, Dr. Chen Shan from TCM center FU TKM joined us and demonstrated some TCM techniques on curious volunteers, after the lecture, given by prof. Wang Qian.

On March 28th 2019 prof. Wang Qian introduced the participants into the interesting world of taijiquan.

On April 4th 2019, the interesting lecture about the origins of Chinese characters and Chinese calligraphy was followed by a short calligraphy workshop.

On April 11th 2019 the last meeting was organized, and many visitors joined us for a lecture about traditional Chinese culinary art. Appropriately, the lecture was followed by a feast of delicious traditional Chinese dishes.
