The elite honour society Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), which has been operating at the School of Economics and Business since 2012, recognises and honours students of AACSB accredited institutions who have proven themselves with exceptional study achievements throughout their studies. The induction ceremony, where membership certificates were awarded to 93 new members, who are now joining the global network of over 750,000 economists, businessmen and experts, was held on Monday, 17 June 2019.

The letters of the Greek alphabet beta, gamma and sigma in the acronym of the society symbolise honour, wisdom and earnestness. They embody high moral principles that the new members commit themselves to follow and honour, whereas BGS’s mission is to provide benefits to its members and especially opportunities for networking and creating various business potentials that foster their personal and professional development.

The new members were first greeted by Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič who pointed out: “Our school is doing its best to produce graduates who, as enlightened individuals, know how to work in teams and find sustainable solutions to the challenges emerging in today’s global society. I am pleased that you are part of our academic community and I hope that you spread the word about our school all around the world, wherever your studies and careers take you. Most of all I hope that you will always return with pride to your alma mater, the School of Economics and Business”.

All those present were also addressed by Janez Škrabec, President of the SEB LU Alumni. “The School of Economics and Business has invited you to join BGS. It is sending a message to you that, with your ideas, astuteness and academic excellence, you have just opened the door of this elite society to which you have been accepted by the chosen ones who expect from you supremacy of thought and excellence of action. You were invited because you have already shown such qualities through your acts and achievements in your studies. Your mission is to uphold, with academic excellence, the reputation of your alma mater and its achievements as well as develop its positive values. You are entering a world of important connections”.

Every BGS chapter also has the possibility of nominating two honorary members every year, who are reputable representatives of the business community, have proven themselves in the business world with an extraordinary sense of leadership and are also involved in the SEB LU’s operations. This year the honorary members are Eva Štravs Podlogar, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, and the businessman Dr Otmar Zorn. “Congratulations to all of you who are and will be part of this story – you are and will be the winners,” said Dr Zorn in his congratulatory address to the new members. Ms Štravs Podlogar added: “Justas the SEB LU is proud of you, you should be proud of your school and also of Slovenia, because only by joining forces can we continue to develop it”.

Sincere congratulations to all new Beta Gamma Sigma members! Thank you for contributing to the SEB LU’s excellence with your achievements. We wish you many successes on your personal and professional paths.
