On 16th of November 2016, the Faculty of Economics (FELU) hosted the 12th Day of Business Informatics. The event was organized through the cooperation of students, Student Alumni and the Academic Unit of Business Informatics and Logistics. Each year they successfully present the importance of informatics in business and try to highlight the trends in this area. This year’s event welcomed three guests, who focused on the theme of digitalization. Topics varied from digital transformation, advertising analytics to the digitalization of healthcare.

The event started with welcoming speaches from the Vice Dean of FELU, Prof Dr Tomaž Turk and Prof Dr Mojca Indihar Štemberger, the Chair of Academic Unit for Business Informatics and Logistics. Both guests briefly outlined the history of FELU, in honour of its 70 year anniversary. They remind the audience how the Faculty adapted to digitalization, with the first computer arriving in 1982, while as early as 1978, it offered courses about business technology. Dr Indihar Štemberger quoted: “The real challenge in digital transformation is change.”

Jakob Kotnik, Director of Dynamics NAV at Adacta d.o.o., introduced his findings and convictions through the case study of Interblock d.d., a luxury electronic table games company that went through digital transformation while cooperating with Adacta d.o.o.. The study case revealed that introduction of standardization was done properly and the business model was changed from selling to renting products. IT solutions therefore resulted in improvement.

“The ads are not the problem by themselves; the problem is if they are ugly and not relevant,” stated Gašper Jeklin, QA Engineer at Celtra d.o.o.. He presented the AdCreator, a product that enables customers to produce their own ads with various and numerous components in different formats. The ads that are shown to potential buyers are filtered through diverse criteria such as age, marital status and gender, which ensure relevance and initiates interest from the consumer. The complicated process of data analysis was presented, showing that Celtra d.o.o. excels at fast data retrieval and customizability.

Lastly, presenters from Parsek d.o.o., a digital company specialising in IT knowledge, introduced digitalization of healthcare. Peter Mihelj, Director of strategic operations and Tomaž Hočevar, Head of User Experience department, presented internet platform Vitaly, which uses the benefits of modern technology and communication in order to enable consumers’ easier access to medical examinations. With the use of online booking of appointments, real-time examination of vitals and a number of other features, it significantly shortens the lengthy process of going to the doctor – it is a platform that offers integrated care. This definitely shows a big step in transformation of the health care system towards a more digitalized and patient-centred system.

Later, the audience was divided into three groups, one for each presenter, and engaged in informal discussions about different aspects of the presented products and case studies they were interested in.
