As it is well known, outside our home borders, we all face a mixture of different traditions, customs, language and business cultures0. Related to this topic, the moderator of the discussion, Peter Frankl, the editor of the newspaper Finance, asked the guests what they think about the stereotypes when working on projects.

Uros Kušar, Litostroj Power, said: “Stereotypes exist for a reason, but exceptions confirm the rule. Slovenians have more in common with nations that are surrounded by the Alps. So far, it was the hardest to work with Czechs, Austrians and Germans are the best business partners and the biggest challenge for me is definitely Costa Rica – they are a some kind of Austrian version of Latino Americans regarding the organizational skills, with effective bureaucracy at a high level. “

Mr. Zhang, who encouraged listeners and potential investors to look towards the East when considering new business ventures. Among other things H.E did not shy away from revealing potential threats that might hinderChina’s economic growth in the future, “We are getting old before getting rich”. Together with the aging population problem, we heard more about the potential housing bubble, growing economic inequality between the rural and urban population and all the macroeconomic and fiscal measures taken and planned to prevent these scenarios from ever coming to fruition.

The event ended with the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Marjan Svetličič (Faculty of Social Sciences) and guests: Mr. Drago Lemut (Le Tehnika), Ms. Jožica Rejec (Domel, d.o.o.), Mr. Igor Bončina (Kolektor/Wuxi), Ms. Zhao Xiufen (economic advisor at the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in Slovenia) and Alisa Avšar (China and Slovenia Commerce Association). The panel began their discussion with general thoughts on the opportunities available and quickly came to the question if Slovenian companies are able to grasp those opportunities even though they might be facing the “smallness” barrier. “No!” said Jožica Rejec, CEO of Dormel d.o.o., “even though our country is small, as are our companies, this is not a barrier because every company should begin their business operations in China with a small program, no matter the size of the overall organization.” Professor Dr. Saje Mitja added: “People think that there is a single large Chinese market, but that is a common misconception, we are talking about several very different smaller markets.” The panel concluded their discussion with some practical advice to interested individuals thinking about taking the next step and joining them in the Land of the Heavenly Dragon:

On the 2^nd of April Faculty of Economics Alumni Club and the Student stock market organized the 54th Seminar of Student Stock Market whose main focus was on: “The present and future state of the financial system in Slovenia”.

At the beginning of the event MSc. Saso Stanovnik from ALTA Group presented a weak macroeconomic projection of Slovenia while pointing out the following: “The Slovenian financial system is similar to the Spanish and not the Cypriot one and that is why we should pay attention very carefully to the further steps that may happen with Spain.” While we in Slovenia wait for the possible solutions from abroad, we also have to take some important decisions about our domestic economy; one of these is related to the sales of Mercator.

The precise analysis made by MSc. Bostjan Vasle, the director of UMAR, was followed by a round table debate. MSc. Bozo Jasovic, consultant of Gorenjska Banka, said: “The rehabilitation of the private sector is as important as one of the banks. We have to look at the other part of the coin as well.” All present experts from the financial world agreed with that statement, while MSc. Igor Stebernak, a board member of Abanka, critically added: “We have to bring the economy to such condition that entrepreneurs will be able to borrow the bank loans according to the European rates of standard.”

As we know, the decision of the bad bank has been implemented and for this purpose, it will be extremely important to solve as much of fresh capital as possible. MSc. Damjan Dolinar, a member of the board by UniCredit Bank, mixed it with a touch of optimism through a positive economic – bank cooperation case: “Banks are active and want to play an active role. A practical example where we have reached a good stage was Intereuropa, which is a successful story. “

So, how to attract foreign capital?
