Celebrating Chinese Chongyang Festival in Ljubljana

Confucius Institute Ljubljana was organizing the celebration of one of the bigest chinese holidays, Chongyang Festival or the Senior Festival. This year the celebration took place in the Retirement home Trnovo with home residents on October 23th.
Chinese people appreciate and celebrate a lot of holidays with a specific purpose. Chongyang Festival or the Senior Festival was named in 1989 by the Chinese government. But it was first celebrated in the time of Han dynasty as they belived that it’s celebration is very important to maintain harmony and longevity.
The celebration was accompanied by a rich cultural and social program. Short opening speeches were followed by a brief presentation af the festival and his purpose. Then we listened to Chinese ancient instrumental music, Tea culture presentation, preformance of children from primary school Trnovo and students from Second Maribor high school and a lot more. We also listened to some chinese songs and poetry. Visitors had the oportunity to try chinese food through the hole programme. The event had been a unique oportunity for the home residents to get to know chinese culture a little bit better.
