On Thursday, 16 January an informal meeting was held by the members of the Business Informatics Alumni Club at the Faculty of Economics.
The president of the board, Džangir Kolar, called the meeting to enable participants to exchange ideas and foster networking. The ultimate aim was to raise the quality of the Business Informatics program.
“We’ll try to figure out what kind of IT knowledge we already have at the faculty, what is missing, and what we need”, Mr. Kolar said.
The meeting agreed that the main requirements were stronger business skills, basic and programming knowledge of databases, negotiation and communication skills as well as teamwork and project collaboration skills. It was suggested that the staff strive towards better sales orientation.
Everybody agreed that students needed hands-on experience in this field in order to be better employable after graduation. It was established that among employers practical experience was often more desirable than formal education. Instruction should therefore focus more on practical skills and thus enable students to be able to work and find jobs when they finish their studies.
In the future, the main goal will be to bridge the gap between theory and practice and at the same time arouse students’ interest, recognize their wishes, and help them to find jobs when time comes.
