Fourth granting of BGS membership: “Utilization of accumulated talent for the benefit of all”

On 6th of July 2015 the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana (FELU) held the fourth Granting of membership to new members of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) society. BGS society consists of members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the academic or professional field and only accepts members from faculties with AACSB accreditation. In the conclusion of the current academic year, the club awarded membership to 96 graduates of FELU, which is eight less than in the previous year.
The BGS ceremony awarded 32 memberships to graduates of undergraduate study (Bachelor’s degrees), 48 graduates of postgraduate study (Master’s degree) and 16 graduates of Doctoral degrees. All presented with the membership certificate joined the international organization, which is prevalent in 28 countries and already counts around 750,000 members who excel in business and economic professions.
In addition to 96 new members, this year BGS accepted two honorary members: Andreja Kodrin and Janez Škrabec. Andreja Kodrin has a business career with roots in academia. When she was no more than 20 years old, she founded her first enterprise. Today she works in Brussels as an economic adviser in the Cabinet of Slovenian Commissioner Violeta Bulc.
Janez Škrabec is founder and director of some of the leading companies in the field of engineering: Riko d.o.o., Riko hiše d.o.o. and Riko Invest d.o.o. He is president of Slovenian-Russian Business Council and President of the FELU Alumni Club. In 2002 he was appointed the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco.
All gathered were addressed by the Dean of FELU prof. dr. Metka Tekavčič, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation for the further development of the new members and increasing the international integration of FELU. The second speaker of the event was Toni Balažič, President of the Management Board of Mercator. He wanted to transmit the message of social responsibility to te audience and especially new BGS members and highlighted the importance of continuous and consistent education, which allows the use of collective talent to benefit the society. After all Beta stands for Bebaeos or honor Gama for Gnosis or wisdom and sigma for Spoude or earnestness.
