FELU MBA Experience Day: “It is a learning journey, which will help you to develop critical and creative thinking”
On April 21st Faculty of Economics (FELU) held the “FELU MBA Experience Day”. The MBA team, together with our distinguished guest – Jim Berry, PhD, enabled participants to experience the unique culture of the MBA program. Participants were introduced to the program structure, they were able to participate in a sample MBA lecture and received useful information from the MBA Alumni.
Melita Balas Rant, Co-Program Director, PhD explained the program’s structure and key objectives. “It is a learning journey, which will help you to develop thinking capacities” was her opening statement. MBA participants are constantly being challenged and pushed out of the comfort zone, to see what their capabilities are and how they can experiment with their behavior in order to become more influential leaders.
Maja Kožuh, MBA Program Manager, gave a deep insight into the program’s courses, projects, and application procedure. “What you are bringing to the program is not your educational background, but you practical experiences that you have gained up until this point and sharing those experience with your peers while solving different managerial issues is the added value of the program!”
A great deal of emphasis is also placed on recognizing participants’ strengths and weaknesses before joining the program, so the program can help them to work towards strengthening those weaknesses by providing opportunities where they are exposed to particular problems, people and projects were they will learn best. The conclusion of the second part turned into an interesting discussion, where Alumni shared their thoughts and experiences after they have successfully finished the program.
At the end participants had a sample MBA lecture by Jim Berry, PhD, Assistant Professor from University College London – School of Management, who gave a lecture on negotiation.
He stated: “Negotiation is not just a science, it’s an art used in our everyday life”. It does not take place only in companies and corporations, but also in different situations, like when you are buying a new car, getting your child to bed, arguing with someone about most appropriate time for the cinema and so on.
“I don’t know of anyone who could develop and perfect it, because it’s a constant on-going process of learning”. Negotiation is an art because you have to fully blend your own personality and the dynamics between you and the other person, and getting there is a long way.
