Month May: Days of Chinese culture
Day of China, May 11th, Atrium of the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana
Each year in the month of May, Confucius Institute Ljubljana traditionally organizes the Days of Chinese Culture on various locations throughout the city of Ljubljana.This year we started on Thursday, May 11th in the Atrium of the Faculty of Economics with the opening event »Day of China«. The traditional lion dance was followed by a demonstration of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony at the outdoor teahouse. In the same venue there was an exhibition of traditional Chinese dresses and a “selfie box corner”, where visitors could take their photos with the “Chinese wall” background.
China through the Eyes of Children, Tuesday, 16. May 2017, Concert hall Kino Šiška, Ljubljana
All Slovenian Confucius classrooms under the patronage of Confucius Institute Ljubljana have presented the unique event “China through the Eyes of Children”, where all kindergartens, elementary schools and high schools of Ljubljana, Maribor and Koper gathered for the first time. Their pupils and high school students, which learn Chinese language took the audience on a journey to the magnificent world of Chinese culture and language through various performances, among them singing of the children chorus in Chinese language, calligraphy and other activities. All the general public has been invited, especially elementary and middle school children. Various representatives of different ministries, especially the Ministry of education have been invited to the event.
Evening of Poetry: Slovenian poet Tomaž Šalamun, Wednesday, on May 17th at the Centre for Poetry Tomaž Šalamun, Ljubljana
The event was envisaged as the first in series of literary events, which are planned to be organized by CI Ljubljana in the future. Invited was the Minister of Ministry of Culture of Slovenia and other high rank officials. After the performance of playing on Chinese zither and the welcoming words of the Slovenian sinologist, dr. Katja Kolšek, a reading of the selected poems of Tomaž Šalamun in Chinese and Slovene language was held.
Exhibition: Fashion-stereo-type; Thursday, May 18th 2017 at the National Museum of Slovenia –Metelkova, Ljubljana
During a three day workshop the students of SANDA University from Shanghai and the department for design of textile and clothing of the NTF Ljubljana, reflected about what distinguishes them, what unites them and how can we use concept, form and content to overcome stereotypes in order to create new solutions and dialogues through contemporary fashion. The final selected products of the Slovenian-Chinese workshop of the art design student of both countries were exhibited at the exhibition on the subject Slovene-Chinese Clothing heritage on May 18th at the national Museum of Slovenia.
