Up until 12 January 2018, Jeroen Dijsselbloem was one of the three people (Junker, Draghi and Dijsselbloem) who had navigated us safely through the turbulent waters of the euro crisis. He was invited to our Faculty as a conference speaker on the topic of making further improvements to the euro system to make the euro more ‘robust’ for any future crises. Mr Dijsselbloem accepted our invitation as well as an invitation to meet with students of the Faculty of Economics. He shared his extensive experience from past years when he was at the helm of Eurogroup and at the same time the Dutch Minister of Finance in the toughest period of the financial crisis.
