On Friday, March 8 2024, we celebrated two extraordinary events – International Women’s Day and the 78th birthday of our respected institution, the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.

On this special day, we asked professors, colleagues, and students to share with us their thoughts about the faculty, their memories, and their expectations for the future.

Former dean of the School of Economics and Business, Professor Metka Tekavčič, PhD, confided her thoughts to us in the interview: “For me, the School of Economics and Business is not just a job; it is a way of life. I have fond memories of my professors and how happy I was with the result I achieved at the first colloquium. I am also happy that many of my classmates achieved outstanding career results. I also have fond memories of many generations of students and my graduates at all levels of study, from the doctoral degree. I am grateful to the faculty and everyone who co-creates it, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to lead it as dean for ten years. The faculty is the people who co-create it, and we will continue to co-create it responsibly.”

Professor Polona Domadenik Muren, PhD, shared with us her best memories and most memorable milestones: “My fondest memories are tied to the moments when we became members of the elite group of business schools. All three accreditations (EQUIS, AMBA, and AACSB) open the door to the global labour market for our students. The commitment of the collective, students, and other stakeholders to the common goals was (and still is) inspiring. Our students are excellent and highly motivated individuals, capable of changing the world around them for the better.”

“It means the opportunity to work directly with students through all stages of their university journey. As part of the Academic Affairs Service, I provide information, support, and guidance to help students progress in their studies. Working at UL SEB keeps me ‘young at heart'”, revealed to Sašo Novak from the Student Affairs Office.

The head of the Academic Unit for Marketing, Associate Professor Mateja Kos Koklič, PhD, shared her thoughts with us: “On one hand, informal gatherings with colleagues are among the brightest moments, and on the other hand, inspiring discussions with students make me the happiest. While rapidly adapting to changes, the faculty continues to be an important member of this society.”

“I believe that the School of Economics and Business plays a key role in shaping the future of students and society by promoting academic excellence, ethical leadership, innovation, and the advancement of knowledge for the betterment of society. With its commitment to excellence, the faculty contributes to building a more successful, fairer future for everyone,” revealed the President of the Student Council of the School of Economics and Business, Matej Lino Pirc.

On the 78th anniversary of the School of Economics and Business, we invite you to explore our 10 most significant achievements from the past year.
