On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the corridors of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana were filled with stands of representatives at the career fair Delo mene isče, organized by the UL SEB Career Center in cooperation with the student association Management Group. The purpose of the fair was to introduce students to the labour market, employers and career opportunities. The most interested students could also get to know the companies 1-on-1 during quick interviews.

Delo mene išče is a place where students can establish contacts with future employers or gain knowledge about the profile they are looking for, which is why the fair was attended by students, both actively and passively looking for work.

In this year’s event, 30 companies, the student association Management Group and the student organization Povezani EF presented themselves. The most recognizable companies that participated in the fair were Gen-i, Lidl, BeTerna, NLB, PWC, Henkel, KPMG and Triglav and offered students both student work and paid internships and full-time employment. As part of the fair, students could gain knowledge and self-confidence before entering the job market for the first time at workshops such as “Secrets of Successful Interviews – how to Impress an Employer?” and “CV Writing: Tips and Tricks”.

A student who attended the career fair for the first time this year confided his experience to me: “I stopped at NLB because I want to work in the banking world in the future. They offer a wide range of jobs, from investing, to stock trading, to sales and marketing. I see myself mainly in the field of finance or marketing, and given that NLB is one of the largest Slovenian banks, I think it is the right choice for a future employer.”

This year’s career fair was a key opportunity for students to bridge the gap between academia and the job market. Today’s students are not just looking for jobs, but building meaningful careers for exciting stories, and searching for doors yet to open.
