Since the establishment of Confucius Classroom onward, we carried out numerous activities for promotion of Chinese culture. Our vistitors showed much interest for Chinese medicine and preservation of health. Taiji is tradicional art for preservation of health and it is also martial art. Taiji, with its use of soft and hard principle, won hearts of many people who are interested in strengthening of health and Chinese martial arts.
At the invitation of Confucius Classroom Koper, martial arts master Wu Haifang came for a one week visit and he impressed local practitioners of Taiji. Master Wu is the 12th generation successor of Chen style Taiji.
“Taiji is born of boundlessness and is the mother of yin and yang. When it is moving, it is divided and when it is still, it is joined. It doesn’t go to extremes, but it still does not lag behind. It is bent, but still straight.” Master Wang Zongyue has explained shortly in his treatise about Taijiquan the essence of meditation in Taiji. In one too short week, master Wu showed to many students of Taijiquan the essence of meditation in Taiji. Between inhale and exhale there is the way of meditation.
Every day in the afternoon, master Wu taught Taiji in Koper. After each demonstration of particular movement, he explained its meaning on the level of martial arts or on the level of preservation of health. Besides movements in Taiji, master Wu also explained to disciples basic techniques of self-defence. Even after the finish of a class, master still explained about martial arts and strengthening of health. The disciples were very satisfied with accuracy of masters teaching.
Master Wu Haifang also visited some elementary schools in Koper, Lucija, Portorož and Piran.
He adapted his teaching to particular age group of pupils and the teaching methods were mainly demonstration, imitation and exercises in groups. Master received friendly welcome wherever he came to visit. At his departure, many children asked for his signature.
Master Wu also visited Center for Elderly People in Lucija where he showed some techniques for maintaining health as well as massage techniques, for which participants were very grateful.
Every evening at 8 o’clock one person from personnel of Confucius Classroom Koper accompanied master Wu Haifang to one of the beaches in Koper, Piran or Izola, where he led Taiji exercises. He attracted the attention of many fans of martial arts. Some of them even spontaneously joined the group and learned about Taijiquan and Chinese culture.
6. junija 2015 je v Kopru potekal prvi Festival borilnih veščin v istrski regiji. K sodelovanju so povabili tudi mojstra Wu Haifanga, ki je prikazal veščine Taijija in borilnih veščin z mečem. Gledalci so mu navdušeno ploskali.
Even though master Wu Haifang stayed in Koper just for one week, he aroused in the hearts of people of Koper an interest in culture of Chinese martial arts and made a deep impression on them. Befor departure, master Wu expressed his gratitude to Director of Confucius Classroom Koper Neva Čebron and expressed his hope for deepening of cooperation in the future.
