On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, we gathered in the Gallery of the School of Economics and Business for the exhibition of the artist Živa Agrež, who exhibited at the school for the fifth time. The journalist, who graduated in comparative literature and art history, seriously coloured her retirement. Painting without preliminary sketches, she depicts her emotions, feelings and thoughts on the fly, and draws her inspiration from everything surrounding her

The appearance of the invisible is her 13th cycle of artworks created during the pandemic and the war between Ukraine and Russia. In reflection of this time, she changed the palette of colours quite a bit and depicted a human in her works for the first time, since the time we were walking through heralded the world of disease, war and shaky relationships.

Anamarija Stibilj Šajn, art historian and critic, accompanied the exhibition with her words: “In this cycle, the author achieved what is the essence of art. To show us what is invisible and to speak to us about what is difficult to say, or even inexpressible.”

The artist, who is already creating a new, 14th cycle called Fairytale World, told us what she connects to most while painting: “To myself. There is no better state in the world than creation. Because then you forget everything, then there is nothing. Then it’s just you and the work you’re doing. It’s the same with writing. You and writing, you and painting – then you forget all worries, all illnesses, all torments, all disputes. That’s when everything becomes beautiful and it’s just you in your own world that you create.”

With a glow in his eyes, which he certainly transfers to his work, in the pictures, as well as in the names of the finished products, Živa Agrež shared words that were not directly intended for the visitors of the exhibition in question, but are nevertheless worthy of hearing by every individual: “I wish everyone to find something so beautiful in life, so that it fills them up and makes them happy, as painting does for me.”

You are invited to walk through the Gallery of the School of Economics and Business in June and see the invisible.
