Guest Lecture at Management Class on Motivational Aspects of Management

On Wednesday, 5. 12. 2012, Faculty of Economics University of Ljubljana was hosting at Management Course of Full Professor Vlado Dimovski, PhD, Assistant Professor Sandra Penger, PhD and assistant Judita Peterlin esteemed guests Mr Matej Petrišič and Ms Jasna Klemenc that presented their extensive experiences with the topic »Motivational Aspects of Management«.
Guest Lecture was divided into two main parts, where Mr Matej Petrišič, LLM, Higher Court in Ljubljana, presented his motivational factors for taking on challenging Master studies at one of the world’s leading universities – University of Cambridge, Great Britain – pursuing the need of self-actualization (Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory), growth need (Alderfer’s ERG Theory) and the need for achievement (McClelland’s Acquired Needs Theory). Mr Petrišič presented to our students the model of motivation, applying it to the experience that is closest to the current developmental level of our class of international students – motivational aspects of managing studies abroad and answering a never ending question: Why is motivation such a vital part of management? According to Mr Petrišič motivation is very important because it enables us to achieve high performance through hard work.
In the second part of the Guest Lecture, Ms Jasna Klemenc, Faculty of Philosophy University of Ljubljana presented her motivation for working in Japan and South Korea and thereafter elaborated on Japanese and Korean managerial approaches to motivating global workforce. She especially emphasized job design for motivation, specifically classified as job simplification, job rotation, job enlargement and job enrichment. Ms Klemenc also established a strong argumentation of the need for cultural management in contemporary business environment, which is strongly present in doing business in Asia where knowing the language and local culture is a cruical advantage of a management student/business (wo)man.
