In November 2014, Faculty of Economics University of Ljubljana hosted Associate Professor Noel Pearse, PhD, who presented his research entitled “Organizational Functioning in an Intercultural Context”.
Professor Pearse presented the underlying theory behind Hofstede’s dimensions of culture, collectivism and Ubuntu: an African world view, management of inter-cultural dynamics, and employment equity. A particularly interesting part of his lecture was the overview of the African business environment, where the professor talked about South Africa’s largest companies and the case of organizing the mining industry in South Africa. In the second part of his lecture the professor focussed on global challenges and how leadership theory has evolved to help solve them through the theory of servant leadership. As leadership development requires an ongoing process – with a holistic approach to the design of a leadership program – the management class joined forces with the Slovene association Zveza prijateljev mladine and is collecting food products for an adopted family of three little children. The items collected will be donated to the mother of the children for Christmas Day.
We wish our guest lots of success in his future endeavours and sincerely thank him for sharing his expertise about cultural component within management and also for inspiring our students about servant leadership.
