FELU Professors receive awards from Emerald for internationally recognised scientific articles
On the 16th of March 2015, the Faculty of Economics, Ljubljana University (FELU) hosted a seminar with a panel discussion entitled How to get published. The Emerald Company awarded FELU professors prof. dr. Maja Makovec Benčič, prof. dr. Marko Jaklič, doc. dr. Matevž Raškoviću and prof. dr. Urša Golob Podnar, for their remarkable research publications. Participants of the event were introduced to the procedures employed by Emerald for judging research by Radka Machková, Emerald’s Business Manager for South-Eastern Europe.
The award and certificate ceremony started with short introduction made by Radka Machková, saying that Slovenia is one of the most active countries when it comes to publishing articles in Emerald Journals. A Highly commended paper award, was given to prof. dr. Maja Makovec Benčič, prof. dr. Marko Jaklič and doc. dr. Matevž Rašković, for publishing an article in the Multinational Business Review entitled Antecedents and evolution of the Bartlett and Ghoshal transnational typology. A certificate for an Outstanding reviewer received prof. dr. Urša Golob Podnar.
Before you publish, you need to read
As an introduction into the discussion, Radka Machková made a good point, saying: “Before you publish, you need to read”. Doc. dr. Matevž Rašković agreed and explained it through the awarded article, as an example of how this statement is actually crucial for successful publishing. “You really need to know, understand and keep track on the field in which you are writing”, so that it fits and corresponds the journal. Prof. dr. Urša Golob Podnar highlighted the understanding of the broader context: “In addition to the screening of articles is also important to precisely examine already published critics of other authors. This could provide us with additional sense in the field of the structure of the article.”
So what next?
In the final part of the event, Machková highlighted the activities after ebeing successfully published: “By publishing a paper, that’s where it doesn’t stop, but you should look for where else you can take the paper to”. She made a brief introduction of Emerald Group Publishing and guidelines on how to make a successful paper. She also mentioned that, compared to other publishers, Emerald is far more flexible and open for new diversities of views. She emphasized how the “So what” question plays an important role when making a decision whether to publish an article or not, regarding the practicality of the articles.
