“Interactive Effects of Perceived Time Pressure, Work-Family Balance Satisfaction, and Leader-Member Exchange on Creativity”
“With creativity being recognised as a key driver of organisational success, scholars and practitioners alike share a strong interest in understanding factors that facilitate creative behaviour. In the conceptualization of creativity, time pressure has frequently been viewed as a salient contingency, because time is one of the main resources needed at every stage of the creative process. With inconclusive existing findings and the fact that time pressure at work is constantly increasing, the investigation into the nature of this relationship remains timely. In this paper, we propose a curvilinear association between time pressure and creativity. Additionally, this study draws attention to the need to consider the interplay of different factors in explaining variations in creativity. Specifically, we consider the quality of leader-member exchange and individual’s perceived satisfaction with work-family balance. Results, based on a sample of 251 employed individuals, demonstrate a curvilinear relationship between perceived time pressure and creativity. Findings further indicate a three-way interaction of time pressure, satisfaction with work-life balance and LMX as joint predictors of creativity.”
