The 2018 “Young Accountant” competition

On 12 and 13 April 2018, a competition entitled “Young Accountant” was held on the FELU campus. It was organised by the Society of Accounting and Auditing Students (DŠRR) in cooperation with the FELU Academic Unit for Accounting and Auditing. This was the second such event in a row and was attended by 160 students from the Ljubljana-based Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Maribor, the College of Accounting and Finance, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana, thus exceeding the organisers’ expectations.

The event was put together by five companies from the auditing and accounting world. The following were in attendance: Ernst&Young, PwC, BDO revizija, KPMG and Unija računovodska hiša.

The event saw students competing in teams and individually in a theoretical test prepared by professors from the students’ faculties. The team part of the competition was based on different case studies prepared by companies in the areas of accounting, taxes, auditing and company valuation. In two different competitions, students showed their theoretical and also practical knowledge and thus, together with the professors and company representatives, created a stimulating atmosphere throughout the event.

Students found the event very attractive in terms of networking and establishing contacts with companies and students from other faculties. The competition was also of interest for companies as they were recruiting potential staff in a specific field of expertise, promoting their own visibility as well as building up contacts.

Concerning the occasion, the Society of Accounting and Auditing Students wishes to thank all the companies for their engagement and extended trust, the FELU and its Dean Prof. Dr. Metka Tekavčič, who delivered a speech to the participants at the opening and closing events, the Academic Unit for Accounting and Auditing for all of its help and cooperation, along with all the sponsors that provided material and financial support.
