“Afraid of Business Challenges” with Young Project Managers

Entrepreneurship is becoming more and more popular nowadays but starting a business can be a scary and intimidating notion, especially for young individuals who are eager to succeed. In cooperation with the successful ABC Business Academy, Young Project Managers showed what the path to success is and which mistakes we can, and should avoid as young entrepreneurs. Guest speakers from the ABC Business Academy Juš Dobnikar and David Aleš encouraged the participants not to be afraid of coping with all the challenges in the business world and that dreams can come true if you work hard and, most importantly, if you work with passion. The round table, organised by Young Project Managers, was held at the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business (SEB LU), on Thursday, 28 March 2019.

Juš Dobnikar and David Aleš are the co-founders of the ABC Business Academy, an educational institution with its summer schools in North America and Europe, all designed as intensive summer business programmes for students and young individuals willing to gain practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills. During the round table they presented the challenges they face while starting their business, as well as providing advice on how to avoid the most common mistakes in business. They highlighted the importance of having a mentor who offers guidance and advice, especially at the beginning of the entrepreneurial path. Furthermore, they agreed that choosing suitable business partners is important for long-term success, but unfortunately young companies often don’t get this right, due to different characters and disparate life goals.

Since networking is important, if not essential for young individuals who have just started to meet with the business world, Young Project Managers decided to devote some time after the round table to this too. This was an opportunity for all the participants to ask questions but also to meet each other. “I was really happy that I attended this event, because I learned so many new things about what I have to consider before I start my own business,” said one of the participants about the round table. At the end, Young Project Managers concluded: “We hope that our guests encouraged you to start your own business and that everything is possible if you believe in yourself, but also that you learned something from their mistakes.”
