On Tuesday, 9 April 2019, the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business (SEB LU) organised an Open Day at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia. The speakers at the event were Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič, the Dean of the SEB LU, Branko Azeski, the President of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, Zorica Apostolska, the Minister for Foreign Investments in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Dr Andreja Kodrin, Member of the Investment Committee of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), and former students of the Business and Organisation study programme in North Macedonia. The event was moderated by Melita Sekulovska, Regional Coordinator of the SEB LU in North Macedonia.

The purpose of the event was to present to the business community in North Macedonia the possibilities for cooperation in the areas of business education and consulting, along with providing future students information about the Business and Organisation graduate programme that is offered in Skopje. In her speech the Dean informed those present about the changed name of the school, which in English is now University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, and then presented the SEB LU’s international achievements such as triple accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA), the Financial Times’ ranking of the SEB LU among the top 95 European business schools and the same publication’s ranking of the SEB LU’s International Master in Business and Organisation – IMB graduate programme in 83rd place among the top 100 programmes in the world in the area of “Master in Management”, the awarding of the SEB LU with the “5 Palms of Excellence” top rank at the 11th Eduniversal World Convention in 2018 as well as the proclamation of the SEB LU as the second best business school in Eastern Europe.

Branko Azeski, the President of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia and Member of the international SEB LU Advisory Board, commented in his speech that the SEB LU was a good example of how the academic world and the business sector should establish connections and cooperate. He pointed out that Slovenia as one of prospective countries from the region made a big step forward by joining the EU, that the SEB LU was on top of the list of internationally acknowledged schools and that the SEB LU’s education model, including its International Business Academy and the International Master in Business and Organisation – IMB graduate programme, offers students an opportunity to become acquainted with the European learning models and good practice. At the end of the event he presented to Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič an award for good cooperation and as a recognition to the SEB LU for being a reliable and reputable business and education partner of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia.

The Minister for Foreign Investments in the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia Zorica Apostolska spoke about the “EU integration processes as a means of attracting foreign direct investments in the Republic of North Macedonia”. At the end of her speech she emphasised that the SEB LU had selflessly implemented the Bilateral Education Agreement concluded between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Slovenia and, through its availability for the citizens of North Macedonia, has thus become a reliable partner in the building of human resources for the North Macedonian business sector and institutions.

Dr Andreja Kodrin, the Member of the Investment Committee of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), held a brief lecture on the topic of “A view of the European Union’s future: between peace, global competitiveness and InvestEU”. In her media statement she said that the focus of the European Union’s operations was on three areas: the first was peace, stability and security, the second a huge market with a population of several hundred million, and the third investments. All three areas are interconnected through education, which is why how to educate human resources and how to succeed in keeping highly educated staff in their native country is a great challenge.

At the end of the event former students Hristina Lozanoska and Kristijan Georgievski as well as current student Mihaela Gjorčeva presented their positive experience of studying at the SEB LU that has given them extensive knowledge which they have been able to use to their advantage to find employment and in their professional work. They said they were extremely satisfied with the teaching methods, professors, literature and case studies.

In the final stage of the event the Dean Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič expressed her gratitude for a fruitful cooperation, on behalf of the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business, to the Minister Zorica Apostolska and Branko Azeski, the President of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia. The latter enabled the presentation of the SEB LU’s activities in its premises.

The event was covered by several media houses.
