Ljubljana, 8 July 2019; This year’s international summer school of the School of Economics and Business in Ljubljana is hosting more than 400 students from over 90 higher education institutions from all around the world. In the three-week programme, in 25 courses 30 internationally renowned lecturers will deliver lectures and teach students from 38 countries across the world. We have hosted more than 4,000 students in a 20-year period. Thus, the Ljubljana Summer School is one of Europe’s biggest summer schools in the field of business and economic sciences.

The School of Economics and Business is organising the international “Ljubljana Summer School, Take the Best from East & West” for the twentieth time in a row.  The Mayor of Ljubljana and the first-ever president of SEB Alumni, Zoran Janković, attended the official opening. He addressed the students, telling them that he is always fond of returning to the School of Economics and Business in the most beautiful city in the world. He presented Ljubljana to the international students as a tidy, green and safe university city with an abundance of excellent cultural events.

The first summer school organised in 2000 was host to 35 students from 5 countries; this year, over 400 undergraduate and graduate students will attend the programme, coming from 90 higher education institutions from 38 countries around the world. The summer school is an intensive programme conducted in English. It is intended for foreign and Slovenian students and anyone who wants to learn, covering all fields of science and different levels. The summer school contains two programme sets: The central and longest programme is intended for study purposes. The programme comprises undergraduate and graduate courses in business sciences, business law economics and business English. The second part is reserved for learning about the culture, customs and tourist sights of Slovenia.

The Ljubljana Summer School is clearly a meeting point for many cultures and international perspectives, which the participants always describe as an exceptional personal experience. The intensive educational process is organised in multicultural groups where the focus is on teamwork and practical examples. At the end of the courses, students take an exam and earn credit points they can use at their home school. The local and foreign lecturers at the Summer School are experts in economics and business sciences as well as other social sciences. All over the world, summer schools are becoming a widespread form of education and form part of regular activities, as well as students’ obligations to spend a certain part of their study period abroad.

The School of Economics and Business has a long tradition in education and research in the economic and business sciences. In addition, active cooperation with existing and potential partner research and educational institutions from all over the world is organised within the Summer School framework. The School of Economics and Business has a broad network of more than 200 international partners worldwide. As internationalisation becomes ever stronger, including organisation of the summer school, the School is consolidating its international connections and dimensions.
