The School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana (SEB LU), is celebrating its 75th anniversary. After its establishment in the 1940s, it quickly became one of the most important and reputable university organizations in the region, boasting an excellent academic community, eminent domestic as well as foreign experts, and a strong connection with the wider social environment. Since then, over 50,000 students have graduated on all three academic levels. Today, the faculty holds three elite awards of excellence (EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA) which rank it among the top business schools in Europe and serve as an indication of its highest quality, international recognition, and employability of its graduates.
The celebration of this jubilee anniversary was held on March 8, 2021, on a well-known special day for all women around the globe, and carried an important message—that the future is most easily predicted if we create it ourselves with our own knowledge and skills. Through a collage of stories, ideas, and thoughts of successful individuals, the alumni summed up their impressions about the faculty in the following way: “As a scientific and educational institution, the Faculty encouraged our engagement and creativity and additionally equipped us with knowledge. I learned how to look at things from a realistic perspective and, more importantly, that reality can be changed.”
In a round table debate, four successful guests which undoubtedly left an enormous mark in the business world discussed and shared the stories that led them to success. Associate Professor Aleksandra Gregorič, PhD (Copenhagen Business School, Denmark), Lucija Lučka Klanšek (Founder and president of LLK, llc Business Consulting), Nevenka Kržan (Senior Partner and Head of Deal Advisory services in KPMG International), and Assistant Professor Tamara Pavasović Trošt, PhD (SEB LU), all agreed that agility should not only be considered a key value in current times but should also represent a general norm for the faculty when faced with new technologies and methods. Students also unanimously agree that they would like to see more in-depth cooperation with companies, more innovative teaching methods, and more opportunities to gain practical knowledge in the future.
The School of Economics and Business entered its 75th anniversary with a charity project that puts on a pedestal three important values—creativity connectivity, and change. Dean of the School of Economics and Business, Full Professor Metka Tekavčič, PhD, said: “In cooperation with a start-up company that also employs many of our graduates, we have created special bracelets that explain that, at the School of Economics and Business, we create, connect, and change. Because we are strongly involved in the international community, we decided to use English initials for this charity event: Create, Connect, and Change. “
We congratulate the School of Economics and Business and everyone who has contributed to its current image for an incredible journey. Despite the difficult times brought by the pandemic, the extraordinary and swift organizational skills of the entire academic community and all stakeholders within it have confirmed that the School of Economics and Business deserves its place among the top schools in Europe. This is why we look into the future with optimism and enthusiasm, as the easiest way to predict it is to make it our own by using our knowledge and skills.
