On Monday, 15 May 2023, the School of Economics and Business Ljubljana welcomed 16 participants from 11 countries at the International Erasmus+ Staff Week Ljubljana. It proved to be a rich, informative and welcoming week of cultural encounters, with a well-selected collection of international lecturers, who shared the knowledge as well as the best practices within international and mobility offices.

Almost halfway through the week, we caught up with some of the participants to ask about their experience. A ‘first-timer’ in the Staff Mobility programme, Lizelle Kannemeyer, Alumni Coordinator from South Africa, explained a bit about the selection process she went through to participate in this week-long experience. “My colleague nominated me last year. You have to go through the whole motivational and selection process. I was fortunate enough to be able to participate. It took a matter of two or three weeks.”

Ellis Renders, Study Abroad & Exchange Coordinator from the Netherlands, also a first-time participant at Erasmus+ Staff Week told us about the benefits: “A lot of the challenges are  not unique to me and Tilburg University but are also experienced by other colleagues so you are not struggling alone and it is interesting to hear about different practices for dealing with certain situations.

Eva Chmelařová, Coordinator for Erasmus+ mobilities, from the Czech Republic, shared her goals; as she has already participated in similar mobility programmes, she knew precisely what she hoped to get out of it: “I am interested in Blended Intensive Programmes as we don’t have them yet. I am really excited to be here because there is going to be a speech by the Finnish representative and she will be talking about this programme.”

As the main topic[FT1]  of this year’s Staff Week Erasmus+ is digitalisation, we were happy to get a few words from Lidija Baloh, Quality Assurance, who, together with Mirzad Brkić, International Relations Office, led a part about digital transformation: “People are the driving force behind digital transformation. They are the ones who develop and implement the technologies, and they are the ones who use them to drive business success. Without people, digital transformation would be nothing more than a collection of technologies with no real purpose or direction. ”
