On Monday, 19 June 2023, we were at the School of Economics and Business in Ljubljana in the company of outstanding athletes and promising entrepreneurs at the Athletes’ Reception 2023.
“I think I can tell the difference between things that are really good, things that look good and things that are ‘whatever’, so what I can say with great certainty is that it is you, the athletes, who have by far, far the greatest potential, not only in the world of sport, where you are already good. In the world of business, too,” said Vinko Zovko, MSc, Senior Lecturer and Chair of Educational Unit for Sports.
While the vast majority of the student population do not engage in sport even once a week, this year the SEB LU athletes have recorded outstanding results at the university championships. That’s exactly what you’ll find in the article: Athletes’ Reception 2023.. In addition to the sporting highlights, they also achieved the title of overall winners at the Economiada 2023.
Matej Lino Pirc, President of the SEB LU Student Council, pointed out in his closing remarks: “Thank you very much, Dean, Vice-Dean and school executives for being so open to sport, because we know that without your support this would not have been possible. The athletes probably wouldn’t have felt the same sporting spirit when they first came to school. To all the athletes, wherever you compete, whether it is team or individual sport, thank you each and every one of you.”
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to you, first of all, Dean. You have made a remarkable impression with your decisions and direction over the last ten years. The Olympic Committee has chosen us as a member that is a role model for all universities in Slovenia and beyond,” concluded Zovko.
The Dean, Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič, responded with the announcement of the Alumni Sports Club and proudly thanked the athletes present for all their achievements.
“As Vice-Dean, I am extremely proud that we are an athlete-friendly school and that the Olympic Committee has awarded us this title,” said the last person invited to speak, Vice-Dean Prof. Dr Andreja Cirman. “It is athletes who lose a match and come to training the next day convinced that this time they will do even more to win. We need people like that. I would put it this way: not only are we an athlete-friendly school, but I am proud of the fact that we have a lot of school-friendly athletes.”
