SEB LU Alumni present how to tackle cybersecurity in today’s turbulent times

On Wednesday, 14 June 2023, the SEB LU Alumni organised a unique event, a webinar entitled “Cyber security – how to tackle it in today’s turbulent times”. The topic was presented by cybersecurity expert and partner Uroš Žust and cybersecurity expert and manager Tevž Delak, both from MAZARS IT d.o.o..

They gave an informative lecture on cybersecurity and the cyber environment. They presented in detail the role of the different lines of defence in the fight against ever-changing threats.

We were able to learn that modern business is increasingly relying on rapidly changing technology. This brings with it a whole new set of problems, new threats, risks of system vulnerabilities and consequent business changes. Today’s modern organisations are almost completely dependent on the digital economy and the internet.

According to Žust, who has more than 18 years of experience in IT systems auditing and cybersecurity management, “cybersecurity works in today’s networked world, where virtually all devices are connected to the internet and thus accessible to everyone. But why are we talking about cybersecurity? Why is it a hot topic? The main thing is that our technological progress is very palpable and technology is increasingly present in all business processes – sales, procurement, etc. New technologies are constantly emerging and changing over the years. These new technologies bring new threats for which we are not yet prepared. The digitalisation trends will of course continue.”

This dependency is the reason why long-term business success and stable growth hang in the balance. In fact, modern organisations are often the victims of intense cyberattacks. This is because the interconnectedness of systems brings additional gaps and vulnerabilities. Remote working and the rapid transition to cloud computing will further increase the likelihood of cyber intrusions.

As cyber threats increase, it is becoming clear that smart solutions are highly vulnerable. Fortunately, the field of cybersecurity makes it easy for companies to install services with the most advanced security standards. This way, businesses can protect their systems and data from potential attacks.
