For the fifth consecutive year, the EIT Digital Summer School took place at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana from 10 to 21 July 2023. This year, 36 students from 16 different countries, including India, the USA, Mexico, Spain, Finland, France, etc., gathered for two weeks to tackle a real business challenge.
The following companies presented their challenges at the summer school: Lek d.d., a Sandoz company, XLAB d.o.o., Plume Design d.o.o., Elektro Gorenjska d.d. (hosted two challenges), Reisswolf d.o.o. and the Public Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, SPIRIT Slovenia.
The summer school organised a lecture by Dr Vaughn Tan, strategic advisor and Assistant Professor at UCL, an expert in innovation strategy and organisational design under uncertainty, and Evangelos Marios Kemos, MSc, Head of Strategic Communications and Key Stakeholder Relations at EIT Digital, who also gave a presentation on the company’s operations.
Mentoring took place almost every afternoon, and SEB LU mentors included Professor Miha Škerlavaj, Associate Professor Dr Aleš Pustovrh, Associate Professor Dr Marko Budler and Associate Professor Dr Luka Tomat, to whom students could turn for help. The organisational, logistical and mentoring requirements of the whole programme were the responsibility of Anuška Cerovšek Beltram, MSc, Senior Project Manager of the EIT Digital Programmes at the SEB LU, while Anastasia Sorgo was in charge of the marketing and creative solutions.
Prof. Dr Škerlavaj said that “36 dedicated students from all over the world, together with case study organisations, presented a set of unique and most useful solutions. Experience shows that these ideas will continue to make waves and impact in the coming months”.
Part of the learning experience of the summer school was also to have fun and learn about Slovenian culture and environment. Students took part in a guided tour of Ljubljana’s city centre and an adrenaline-packed weekend spent in Bled and Bohinj in the Gorenjska region.
The Plume team won with an innovative home energy management solution that can be integrated into the existing Plume infrastructure.
