Professor Matej Černe, PhD, received Zois’ recognition

On Friday, October 13, 2023, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation announced the recipients of the highest state awards and recognitions in science.

Zois’ recognition for significant achievements in the field of research in the management of creative, innovative and digital work went to Prof. dr. Matej Černe from the School of Economics and Business of Ljubljana University.

Matej Černe, PhD, is a professor at the School of Economics and Business of Ljubljana University , where in recent years he has contributed significantly to science in the field of human resources, with a special emphasis on a deeper understanding of creativity and innovation at work and the humanization of digital work.

Research achievements of prof. Černe make a key contribution to establishing mechanisms for the success of employees and organizations in the face of continuous external and technological pressures. Award-winning research is based on a number of rigorous research designs/methods (field studies, experiments, bibliometric analyses, development of measurement instruments) and techniques (multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling), while also conceptualizing insightful theoretical models.

In terms of content, it is an important contribution both in the field of cooperation between employees, their creativity and the prevention of burnout, as well as finding out how organizations can be more sustainable. At its core, Černe’s research work helps recruiters become more human and successful.

In the field of understanding the current phenomenon of digital work, professor Černe deals with the topic of humanizing digital work in connection with ensuring sustainable development. As part of the achievement, an influential platform for the dissemination of research work into practice and the wider public #HumanizingDigitalWork was also established, which is present on three communication channels (website, LinkedIn and Instagram), where it has more than 1,300 unique permanent followers and a total of more than 50,000 views of regularly updated content.

At the celebratory event, which took place on November 28, the keynote speaker was the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob, and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Igor Papič, also attended the event.

This is the second Zois award for researchers from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana in the last three years, after the award was received in 2020 by Prof. dr. Miha Škerlavaj. At SEB LU, we are very proud of our researchers. We sincerely congratulate professor Matej Černe, PhD on his excellent achievement.
