On Thursday, 21 December, the now traditional charity standup event took place at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, which was organized as part of the charity week by Povezani EF and student associations of the SEB LU. This year we were entertained by the famous Slovenian comedian Vid Valič. The event occurred in the Great Hall, which was bursting at the seams, as around 400 spectators attended.
Before the start, we momentarily interrupted ŠSEF vice president Nataša Barišić, who confided in us that she took part in the charity standup mainly out of compassion for children in need. She loves to help other people to the best of her ability. “A little attention can mean a lot more to someone than we think,” she said.
Matej Lino Pirc, president of ŠSEF, delivered the opening speech, in which he welcomed all the visitors and thanked the students for such a positive response to the organization of this year’s charity week. The representative of the Lunina Vila Institute, B.Sc. of biopsychology, Nina Kralj, also spoke via video call. On behalf of their entire team, she expressed her sincere thanks for all the charitable contributions. At the faculty, throughout the week as well as on the day of the event, funds were collected at the stand between the Small and Great Halls for this organization, which provides psychosocial and psychotherapeutic help to children and young people who have experienced various types of trauma due to abuse.
Then came the moment for entertainment, as the one and only Vid Valič came to the stage. Of course, there was no shortage of laughter and tears as well. Valič made jokes mainly about the corona and post-corona times and the politics of that time. He also touched on fatherhood and spending time with a pregnant woman, as he became a father to a daughter for the first time last spring. But there was no shortage of humorous advice. But there was also a slightly more serious advice, which he learned through his daily life: “Be patient with each other, especially with people you don’t know. This is the most difficult,” he emphasized in conclusion. The visitors greeted him enthusiastically with thunderous applause.
