The SEB LU at the beginning of the new semester welcomed new international students who came to Slovenia to expand their horizons and to gain new experience. The three-day welcoming event started on Wednesday, 14th of February 2024. The international office at SEB LU prepared informative lectures as well as orientation walks with SEB Buddies who lead the new students around the faculty buildings.
SEBuddies are students who make the first encounter of international students with the faculty more welcoming and friendly. They share their experience, knowledge and cultural habits with newcomers. SEB buddies became buddies to share their international experience, and “to get new friends, that was my main motivation, and also to have experience for my CV,” said an already experienced former exchange student. The second SEB buddy said she got her motivation: “When I was at the lecture on the international exchange they said it will be beneficial for our application. That was not true, regardless to become SEB buddy was the best decision because I met many new friends.”
This semester SEB LU is hosting more than 160 international exchange students, 142 exchange students and 20 double-degree students who came from 84 partner institutions from 29 different counties. The most represented are France, Germany and Spain.
Students from Scotland who study marketing, business analysis and international business, see this experience as a stepping stone to an international career and are looking forward to being in a culturally diverse environment. Portugal students of informational management decided to come because they already knew Slovenia and they are excited to discover the country.
A student from China who studies finances chose Slovenia because he saw a picture of Bled in a National Geographic magazine and was impressed. Also, “The financial system in China is quite different from a lot of countries in the world and I can see a lot of differences here, which will bring me new ideas and in my career I may not consider working in China but working in other countries.”
In short three days, the international students got to know the culture of Slovenia and of SEB LU, they got their Buddies and connected on team building in the city centre. We wish them a pleasant stay and a lot of beneficial study experience.
