Information session for the Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business

On Wednesday, March 20th, the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana hosted an information day for its doctoral study program in Economics and Business. The information session was intended for current students and those who sat at the school desks years ago and are contemplating pursuing doctoral studies at UL SEB.
Full Professor Tomaž Turk, PhD, opened the information session with some basic information and guidance for future students. The presentation was continued by the vice-dean for Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies, Full Professor, Igor Lončarski, PhD, who presented the program in more detail, described what is expected of the future doctor of science and what the doctorate enables the student to do in his career.
Programme coordinator and Vice-Dean for Development, Full Professor Mateja Drnovšek, PhD, provided technical information regarding studies and enrolment in the program and data from recent years. Doctoral studies are conducted entirely in English, last for four years, and each academic year is evaluated with 60 credit points. Prospective students can choose between a Business Track (Management and Organization, Marketing, Financial Management, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Tourism, International Business, Information Management, Operations Research, Business Logistics) and an Economic Track (Economics, International Economics, Money and Finance). She introduced the possibility of a “double degree”, Doctoral winter and summer schools. Lastly, she presented the enrolment conditions, the date for enrolment, and the possibilities for financing the study.
Young researcher and doctoral programme student Amadeja Lamovšek, M.Sc. business of science and doctoral programme graduate Ivana Jovović later gave their impressions and advice for easier study in the doctoral program. In the end, Associate Professor Mojca Bavdaž, PhD, presented the interdisciplinary study of statistics. Klara, a postgraduate student at UL SEB, says she is interested in this field and was convinced by the wide choice of majors. She is most inclined towards the business direction. Meanwhile, Matej, a postgraduate student at the UL SEB, leans more towards economics. He wants to study mainly because of the desire to do research that would help the progress of society.
