On Tuesday, April 23 2024, the traditional event Supply Chain and Logistics Day was held at the School of Economics and Business University of Ljubljana, where visitors could learn about the sustainable approaches of companies.

Prof. Mojca Indihar Štemberger, PhD, Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs at UL SEB, welcomed the guests first. Then Assistant Professor Dr. Marko Budler,
M.Sc. presented the problem of greenwashing: “From the point of view of sustainability, in most cases, people say one thing and do another,” he warned.

The first guest speaker, Samo Krančan, director of sustainability at Danfoss, emphasized the complex composition of ESG. One of their projects is to replace styrofoam with a paper substitute. The company has also introduced low-carbon plastic. He said that the plastic recycling process is still not as well developed as it could be, or as it seems to us at first glance.

Borut Markovič presented a new project from Lidl Slovenia, called eTovornjak. This product would enable a big step in the electrification of freight transport, but before that, the infrastructure (e.g. charging stations) would have to be significantly improved. Later, Maja Ravnak, team leader in logistics, presented the packaging deposit system, which many countries in Europe and elsewhere already use similarly. With an experiment in which bottles were collected for charity for the Heroes of the 3rd Floor association, they proved that such a system would be effective in recycling bottles and deposits would encourage people to recycle.

Finally, Rok Snoj, MA, director of the KraftPal production plant in Austria, demonstrated how their cardboard pallet could replace the current wooden pallets. Most pallets are used only once, although they could be used several times. A cardboard pallet would therefore be a much better substitute, as its production and use are much more environmentally friendly.

After the lecture, there was a reception with snacks and a cold drink, where visitors and lecturers could exchange their opinions about the green future.
