On Thursday, 23 May 2024, the School of Economics and Business University of Ljubljana hosted a ceremony to award the 14th generation of Beta Gamma Sigma. Only those studying at AACSB-accredited schools are eligible to join the BGS, and this year 85 students in the 14th generation received this special invitation.

Beta Gama Sigma international was founded in the USA in 1913, and the UL SEB  was among the first in this part of Europe to establish Beta Gama Sigma in 2012 to give its students the same opportunities and access to the same opportunities as the world’s best business schools. Today, our faculty is one of only two in the region to have this prestigious association.

Like every ceremony, this one began with welcoming new members, special guests and of course family and friends who proudly accompanied the students on this special occasion. The Dean, Prof. Dr. Tomaž Turk, encouraged the new members of the BGS to join together, especially for the purpose of professional networking and exchange of good practices, and concluded by saying “Today is a day to rejoice together in your success, in your hard work, and I would also like to thank all those who have helped you along the way in your journey at our faculty.”

Two honorary members, Katja Goljar and Bojan Ivanc, were invited to join the Beta Gamma Sigma family. The first guest of honour to receive a plaque was Katja Goljar, a former graduate of the UL SEB, a graduate of the IMB Master’s programme and a young entrepreneur who, together with a friend, is building the Relove brand. Goljar told the audience to keep the ‘beginner’s mind’, the passion that drives innovation and the self-confidence they have gained during their studies, and reminded them that “When you achieve success, don’t forget to help others. When you serve others, you realise that the world needs exactly what you have to offer.”

The other member of the time, Bojan Ivanc, a university graduate in economics, CFA and Chief Economist of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who also studied in France, was a member of the ‘Top 20’ club when he was a student, as BGS did not even exist yet. “I recommend that every two months you read a challenging book that will open up your thinking horizon,” was just one of the many recommendations Ivanc made to new BGS members.

Congratulations to all members and good luck on your career journey.
