IMB 20th generation: Our Turkish adventure

07.10.2013No Comments

The IMB 20th generation ended first year of studies with an unforgettable experience in Turkey. Our final trip was crammed with activities varying from intellectually stimulating lectures and discussions to cultural tours and exciting our taste buds with all flavours Turkish.

The first half of the excursion allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the Turkish culture. A guided day tour of Istanbul, including Mosques and Bazaars, opened our eyes to both past and present-day Istanbul and was definitely a socio-cultural awakening for many of us. Our business meetings at Sekerbank and DEIK (Foreign Economic Relations Board) as well as the Instanbul Kultur University allowed us to discuss and further understand the current situation in Turkey and also the future prospects of this emerging market. Discussions and lectures were especially rewarding since many of the presentations where lead by individuals on the forefront of Turkish economic development

The second leg of our trip included a visit to Bursa, Izmir and the ancient City of Ephesus. Once again, our visit to the DEU was insightful and provided us with a greater understanding of Turkish economy and factors which play a large influencing role in moulding this nation with its turbulent yet progressive past. We ended off our trip on the beaches of the western coast of Turkey to enjoy the last days of summer (and of course discuss progress reports for our conference papers!).

This class excursion rang true to what we had learnt throughout our year at IMB: work hard, play hard. We had successfully managed to absorb all the magic of Turkey while enhancing our understanding of this culturally and historically unique economic power of the future.
