Guest Lecture at Management Class on The Role of Corporate Governance in Managing the Corporations

On Wednesday, 29th Octobre 2014, Faculty of Economics University of Ljubljana was hosting at Management Course of Full Professor Vlado Dimovski, PhD, Assistant Professor Sandra Penger, PhD and assistant Judita Peterlin, PhD senior lecturer and doctoral scholar Mr Zufar Ashurov that presented his research and extensive experiences with the topic »The Role of Corporate Governance in Managing the Corporations «.

Mr Ashurov is preparing his PhD dissertation titled: “Improvement of Organizational and Economic Mechanism of Corporate Governance in the Joint-Stock Enterprises” at Tashkent State University of Economics in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) where he is also lecturing. He received several honours and scholarships, to name just a few: Erasmus Mundus Euro-Asian CEA programme scholarship for individual mobility, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2014; DAAD Research Grant for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists, University of Hamburg, Germany, 2011; Grant of the “ISTEDOD” Foundation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Advanced Training of Perspective Young Teachers and Scientific Personnel, 2011; Scholarship of the International Corporate Governance Network for attending the ICGN Annual Conference, Paris, France, 2010. He is also an active member of several esteemed associations, such as: Corporate Governance and Sustainability International Group, Scientific Social Community: Network for Scientists, Global Development Network and Social Science Research Network.

Senior Lecturer Ashurov presented in our classroom (1) what is a corporation, (2) what the types of corporations there are, (3) differences between corporate governance versus corporate management and (4) what are the benefits of the corporate governance. He defined corporate governance according to Monks as the relationship among various participants (chief executive officer, management, shareholders, employees) in determining the direction and performance of corporations and provided extensive examples from the international corporate world. He later on discussed the global impact of corporations and how they operate in practice.
