To honour the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Slovenia and People’s Republic of China and also the second anniversary of establishment of the Confucius Institute Ljubljana, a great number of cultural events is going to take place, all part of the Chinese Cultural Month.

Celebrations of the two important anniversaries are going to start in Maribor on 7th May with a grand concert entitled “Echo from the Far East – Chinese Rhyme”, Tour of the Volunteers for Chinese Culture in collaboration with the Confucius Institute Ljubljana which is one of the main organizers together with the City Municipality of Ljubljana, the Chinese embassy, the city of Maribor and the SIFT, partner university of the Faculty of Economics from China.

The performing artists will present the mighty five-thousand-years old civilisation with soloist singing, playing on various traditional instruments such as antique bone flute and double-bamboo pipe, acrobatics performances, tea ceremony, dancing and the Sichuan opera with its famous face-changing performance.

Four days after the Maribor premiere, the concert will see its replay in the Puppet theatre in Ljubljana. Before that an important three-week exhibition will open  on Trg republike 3 in Ljubljana. The two prominent Chinese artists, Rong Kang and Wei Zhang, will be present at the opening of “The Tao follows the Nature” exhibition which will focus on traditional and modern Chinese paintings and show the highest forms of Chinese art – the Chinese calligraphy.

Moreover, other Chinese artists will prepare a photo exhibition from Chengdu, a street performance in Ljubljana and a multimedia exhibition by Huiquin Wang entitled “Tea and Water”. The rich programme of the month of Chinese culture will end on 13th June, a date carefully selected due to the symbolic links with the life of Ferdinand Avguštin Hallerstein, a major scientist of the 18th century and the first Slovenian which immigrated to China where he built a successful career.

You are warmly invited!
