Entering in the year of Snake in Primary School Trnovo in Ljubljana
First celebration of Chinese New Year ; Spring Festival; was held on February 11th 2013 at Primary school Trnovo in Ljubljana. The celebration was a part of a project called “Learning about Chinese culture and language in Slovenian educational space”.
The event is the result of close cooperation with Confucius Institute in Ljubljana, and three Slovenian Primary schools: Primary school Trnovo, Primary school Koseze and Primary school Tone Čufar. The main purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the importance of learning Chinese language and culture and to give students the possibility to develop their knowledge and artistic talents. Honorable guests were H. E. Mr. Zhang Xianyi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Slovenia and MSc. Ms. Danijela Voljč, Director of Confucius Institute Ljubljana.
Students of Primary schools Trnovo, Koseze and Tone Čufar, who are attending course “Understanding Chinese culture and language”, presented the characteristics of the Chinese Spring Festival, dance performances and chinese songs.
Guests and media response to the event has been remarkable. Above all, they were surprised that the students in a very short period mastered basic Chinese language. An insight into other cultures is one of the biggest treasures, which we can give to our children. In this way, they will broaden their horizons and know the importance of coexistence of different cultures.
