ALUMNI & CI Forum
Alumni club of Faculty of Economics, this time with the help of Confucius Institute attracted our attention on China – the land of business opportunities. The aim and purpose of the meeting was the sharing and transmission of new knowledge for all those who want to make a step forward especially in business but also in personal life. In this purpose, Alumni club invited representatives of Slovenian companies who have rich experience in the operation in China at the meeting. We were honored by the presence of his Excellence Mr. ZHANG Xianyi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Slovenia.
“A common concern for our common future.”
Keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič, highlighted the importance of the Confucius Institute at the convergence of Slovenian and Chinese communities, and at the same time expressed the wish that the Institute would become the basis for further planning of new ties and understanding of the potential offered by the Chinese market. “A common concern for our common future.” Guests were then welcomed by the director of Confucius Institute Ljubljana Ms. Danijela Voljč who remembered us about the importance of the Institute described as a bridge between the two countries, and options that the Institute offers to businessmen and students interested in China.
“We are large, so the problems are inevitable.”
EFnews spoke with Ms. Danijela Voljč after the meeting about study opportunities in China: “The Chinese government awarded 20 scholarships to study at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, which covers the cost of rent and all other living expenses for students of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.” On question, why the interest in this kind of adventure is low, Director of the Institute commented that Slovenian students have the “fear of the unknown,” according to which also includes studies in China.
“Content of the forum was interesting, I was on a two-month exchange in China, so I was wondering how do Slovenian companies overcome cultural differences, and what are the prospects for further development.” Matjaž Modil, an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Economics commented about his feelings about their meeting.
