Many businessmen, politicians, professors and eminent representatives of the Slovenian social and governmental environment came to Cankarjev dom for only one reason – to listen to the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic winner, Paul Krugman.
After Mr. Matjaž Gantar and Mr. Kris Thomas opening address, prof. dr. Dušan Mramor’s, dean of the Faculty of Economics speech followed.
Prof. Krugman spoke about the current financial crisis, reasons, its progress and future actions of the financial sector and the global economy. During his lectures he discussed about the actions that countries and organizations around the world have already accepted, commented on their performance, and indicated possible turning point. One of the most highly respected economists believes that Slovenia can be satisfied “that did not follow all the prescription of the IMF and other international financial institutions”.
On this occasion, Faculty of Economics Ljubljana published a book (Slovenian translation), entitled Vrnitev ekonomike depresije in kriza leta 2008 (the original title of Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008). Foreword of the translated issue wrote prof. dr. Ivan Ribnikar.
