Chinese New Year celebration: The Year of the Rooster

On Wednesday, 18th of January 2017, the celebration of the Chinese New Year took place in Festivalna dvorana. With the cooperation between the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Confucius Institute Ljubljana has entered into the Year of the Rooster.
The Slovenian rooster has hurried up with the announcement of the New Year this year. In China, the official entrance into the New Year will be on the 28th of January 2017.
President of National Council, mr. Mitja Bervar, Minister of Infrastructure mr. Peter Gašperšič, Deputy Mayor mr. Dejan Crnek and many others joined us in celebration.
Ms. Danijela Voljč, director of the Confucius Institute, His Excellency mr. Ye Hao, ambassador of The People’s Republic of China and the president of The Chinese Chamber of Commerce, mr. Yu Zhao have opened the evening of cultural performance with a speech and welcomed all guests into the New Year. Then mr. Zhu Dan, one of the best Chinese musicians, has enchanted us all with his amazing performance. But this was not the end of the cultural programme. Two artistic groups from China, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astrounautics Art Troup and The Voice of Yunnan have honored us with their presence.
The cultural programme was followed by now already traditional fireworks, which have additionaly announced the entrance into the New Year. The festive event was closed with a feast.
The Slovenian, as well as the Chinese rooster symbolises thouroughness and loyalty, announce the start of a new day, and is linked with working habits. The rooster is a calm animal, but can be fierce when needed and often feels invincible. He dreams about a big future, which is what we hope for the Chinese as well as the Slovenian people.
