Confucius Institute Ljubljana successfully held the 2018 Dragon Boat Racing

On June 16th, the Dragon Boat Racing organized by Confucius Institute Ljubljana took place by the Ljubljana River. Danijela Voljč, the foreign director of Confucius Institute Ljubljana, and Li Qianghua, counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia attended the event and delivered speeches. The event attracted more than 300 Chinese and local people to come and participate.  Nine teams participated in this competition, including the Confucius Institute staff team, the Confucius Institute students team, Faculty of Economics staff team,  Faculty of Arts teacher and student team, Slovenia Canoe Federation team, the Slovenian Chinese Merchant’s Association team, Koper Qi Club team, River Boat Captain Club team and a mixed team of students from University of Ljubljana and other locals. After the moderator announced start, with loud and rhythmic drums, the team members fought hard to row and made concerted efforts, bravely marching forward. After about an hour’s fierce competition, Slovenia Canoe Federation team won the championship, followed by Koper Qi Club team and Faculty of Economics staff team. In addition, there were traditional Chinese art workshops by the Ljubljana River, to involve children in the charm of Chinese traditional festival and art. Confucius Institute volunteer teachers patiently demonstrated and taught them how to make sachets for Dragon Boat Festival, dragon, dragon boat and handmade paper Zongzi. Confucius Institute Ljubljana also held a Chinese food festival with five local Chinese restaurants. Traditional Chinese food such as Zongzi, roast duck, fried dumplings, cold noodles, stir fried noodles were offered, a feast which made everyone full of joy.    
By the beautiful Ljubljana River, with tasty Chinese foods, passion of the Dragon Boat Racing and charm of traditional Chinese festivals, participants said they enjoyed the event so much that they want to attend it also in the next year.
