We entered the year of goat
On Thursday, 12 February 2015 a celebration of a Chinese New Year was held at the Hotel Plaza in Ljubljana. We said goodbye to the old year, a year of horse and entered the new year, the year of goat. A large number of people attended the celebration, distinguished guests of the evening were dr. Stanka Setnikar Cankar, Minister for Education, Science and Sport, His Excellency Zhang Xianyi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Slovenia, dr. Ivan Svetlik, Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Mr. Dejan Crnek, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ljubljana and many other representatives of the Slovenian ministries and universities. Celebration was also attended by directors of Confucius classrooms.
The theme of this year’s celebration was “Slovenian – Chinese friendship.” For this purpose characteristics of both cultures were combined in catering and as well in the decoration.
Among the performers at the celebration were Mr. Matej Zupan, flutist and vice-chancellor of the University of Ljubljana and Mrs. Jana Rošker, professor at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Asian and African Studies, she performed with the interpretation of chansons, in English and Chinese languages. In addition to musical performances there were also dance performances presented by Chinese language teacher Miss Wang Xiao and Miss Zhang Lulu, they presented the guests of the evening a Chinese traditional dances – fan dance and ethnic minorities dance “Dai”.
