Indian colors in the rhythms of Avsenik
The Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana (FELU) hosted 23 female senior managers from India. They came to slovenia on a one-month educational visit to exchange knowledge and experiences while attending the International Program for Business Management directed towards women executives of Central Public sector Enterprises in India, organized in cooperation with Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE). On Sunday 16th of November FELU organized a welcoming reception, all about famale senior managers and many distinguished guests attended the event.
At the evening reception, many women were wearing saris, a traditional, and colorful Indian garment. In addition, when musicians played traditional Slovene music, Na Golici, from the Brothers Avsenik, stated the affection was mutual.
In the presence of Slovenian Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Stanka Setnikar Cankar, FELU dean, prof. dr. Metka Tekavčič, presented the opening speech and pointed out, that it is the first time the faculty has hosted such a group of managers. Janez Podobnik, ICPE director general, emphasised that women should speak out and step forward in the managerial world more often. H.E. Sarvajit Chakravarti, the Indian ambassador of India for Slovenia, pointed out that exchanging ideas leads to innovations and has a large contribution to economic growth that is most needed in both countries. He hopes that all the visitors will experience Slovenia in the best way possible as he has since his appointment.
Exchange of managerial skills and establish new business links
The purpose of the event is to exchange managerial skills and to find new and better ways of managing companies. It is also ment to establish new links and future partnerships between Slovenia and India. Prof. dr. Nevenka Hrovatin, programme director, presented the International Program in Business Management for female executives. As she told EFnews, the collaboration with ASCI has always been very good; moreover Slovenian companies were very eager to participate in this educational process. The attendees will take tours at many Slovenian companies, such as Luka Koper (Dockyard Koper), Akron (furniture production), Snaga (Ljubljana’s garbage disposal), Laško (brewery) and others. They will also attend the Portorž Business Conference on the 21st and 22nd of November and visit Bled, where they will be greeted by Mr. Janez Škrabec and Postojna Caves where Mr. Marjan Batagelj will welcome them.
The majority of the women work at energy-connected companies, such as power providers and oil or gas producers. Alka Tuteja from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., who is attending the program, is most looking forward to visiting a nuclear plant at Krško, as she works in an electricity provider company. This is her first visit of Slovenia, as is the case many others in the group, however, she is concerned about the colder weather, especially in the coming weeks. All the attendees were very happy to hear the traditional Slovenian music during the reception and they agreed that music has no boundaries and neither should our new relationship.
Indian imports steadily rising, while Slovenian exports decreased
The trade between Slovenia and India is currently around 280 million EUR per year. Indian imports to Slovenia stand around 210 million EUR, while Slovenian exports to India are at just 80 million EUR per year. Indian imports have been steadily rising in last few years, even during economic crisis, while Slovenian exports have decreased by more than 10% from 2012 to 2013. This data shows us the need for making ties with representatives from Indian companies.
