On December 9th 2014, the Faculty of Economics, Ljubljana University (FELU) was honoured to unveil its newest art exhibit featuring the work of Slovenian artist Nikolaj Vogel. The exhibit was on display for the month of December and into the New Year as well.

Nikolaj Vogel was born on December 12th 1972, in Ljubljana. He was born hearing-impaired and as a child, attended the Training Centre for listening and speech-impaired in Maribor, he then attended secondary school in Ljubljana which he completed with honours. He began painting at the age of 16, after the death of his father and stated (interpreted by Natašha Kordiš). “At 16 years, when my father died, then I started to paint. When I was 7 years I started to draw in my notebook, I made it a diary of pictures. The pictures showed my feelings.” He then went on to attend the Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in the ’97. He completed his postgraduate studies in 2003.

Mr. Vogel lives and works in Ljubljana and has had 10 solo exhibits, most recently in Bled, where he was invited by Slavica Zrakič to have an exhibit at FELU. The exhibit currently being shown at FELU is entitled “Time In Space”, and when asked why he choose this theme, he stated: “I was working on time and studied the topic of time and what does time in space mean. I found out that time and space cannot be separated, I found it interesting and decided to paint how it appears to me.” The paintings on display were painted from as early as 2002, but with quite a few painted this year, as well. Mr. Vogel’s work shows depth and great imagination. It creates a bridge between reality and the connection between time and space. FELU is honoured to support both, art and culture.
