“A Remarkable Absence of Colour”

On March 3rd, 2015, the Faculty of Economics’ Art Gallery proudly opened its exhibit entitled ’Emptiness’ by the Slovenian photographer Petra Bodlovič. The opening of the exhibit was commemorated with a short harmonica concert by Miro Božič. The Exhibition will continue throughout March.

Petra Bodlovič is a Slovenian photographer who was born in Ljubljana and current lives in Paris, where she focuses on her photography. She studied in both France and Slovenia and her second language is French. She studied Chinese and French.

The photographs currently on display were taken in Slovenia, France, Spain, and Croatia between 1999 and 2001. They are some of Petra Bodlovič’s earliest work, including an image of a landscape near Ljubljana Castle. There are ten photographs on display, printed on 100 x 150 cm canvases.

The works are exclusively in black and white as Petra feels, “Black and white is more pure than colour. It creates mystical atmospheres and invokes a feeling of infinity.” The lack of colours is eye catching and leaves one contemplating the solemn feeling of the image, looking almost haunted in its eeriness.

The images seem to speak louder than words as unseen details jump out. There is always something new to see, whether looking at the work as a whole, or an individual piece. It is an exhibit not to be missed.
