Vice-chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee visits the Faculty of Economics Ljubljana
On Monday, 26th of October 2015, Faculty of Economics has hosted a visit from the Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee, Mr. Li Liangyuan and his Chinese delegation. After their arrival at 17:00, they were greeted at the reception desk of the faculty by the dean, prof.dr Metka Tekavčić and the rector of the University of Ljubljana dr. Ivan Svetlik.
“Cooperation with the Chinese Institute has opened many doors for the Faculty of Economics”
The visit proceeded with a speech from dr. Ivan Svetlik who had nothing but words of gratefulness and praise for FELU’s, and Slovenia’s cooperation with China. In his words, the presence of the Confucius Institute (CI) at the Faculty of Economics has opened another dimension for various classes held at the faculty, offering a new, different, perspective at various economic and business matters, seen through the lens of the Chinese culture. Furthermore, the fact that the CI offers classes of Chinese language for not only students of the faculty, but also students of preschools and elementary schools, shows dedication to education of not only the language but also the various beautiful aspects of the Chinese culture. “I’m assured that if the tradition of good cooperation continues, there will be no lack of results.” – said dr. Svetlik and gave the floor to the dean of the faculty, prof.dr. Metka Tekavčić. Prof. Tekavčić offered her thanks to all the volunteers at the CI and to the delegation for their time and continued to present a movie about the work of the CI, which can be found at the web pages of the Confucius institute.
“Language is the foundation stone for quality cooperation between two nations”
At the end of the visit, the Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Shanghai Committee Mr. Li Liangyuan offered his thanks and appreciation for the work of both the FELU and the Confucius institute. He was utterly impressed by the fluent Chinese language heard from the children at such young age shown in the movie, and his heart was touched by the dedication and appreciation that the FELU shows for the Chinese culture. “Language is the most important tool for knowing a culture and plays a linking role between two different nations.”– he said, and continued to congratulate for a lot of goals accomplished by the FELU and CI in a short time. “The Confucius institute plays a very important role in both the EU and the whole world” – Mr. Liangyuan emphasized and assured that Shanghai has great respect for the CI and he is sure they will continue with friendly cooperation and mutual efforts to promote both nations. He finished with an invite to Shanghai and an opportunity of “collaboration on the other side of the world”. The visit was wrapped up by a mutual exchange of friendly gifts and a group photo of the visit.
