On Monday, 19th September 2016, the Centre of Business Excellence at the Faculty of Economics (FELU) organized the Cutting Edge of Digital Mind Conference at the National Gallery in Ljubljana. The purpose of the Conference was to review digital world trends with examples of foreign practices in the fields of telecommunications, banking, innovation business and the automotive industry.

“The world around has been changing.”

In her opening speech, the conference organiser and Director of Center of Business Excellence Faculty of Economics (FELU), Monika Lapanja, said that the purpose of the conference was its networking knowledge, ideas, and experiences in the field of digitalization with experts and professors. Nowadays, digitalization is crucial for all companies, and also for the start-up companies. “The transformation is necessary for employees, business processes and business models, as this are the only way for enterprises to survive in today’s harsh climate,” explained Ph.D., Professor Mojca Indihar Štemberger.

Digitalization makes it possible by using the most modern techniques, in order to convert analog content into digital form. “More and more people are using smartphones, tablets, and PDAs,” pointed out Milana Ognjenović, Customer Experience Manager, from Telenor Banka. Telenor Banka, part of Telenor Group, recently introduced its first online mobile bank, which has enabled its customers to have easy and safe control over the cost of banking services.

A new platform of digitalization has also been introduced by Uber, an American multinational online transportation Network Company. “Taxi drivers are not our competitors. By using the Uber app, you have access to information about the driver, and the price as well. However, all transactions go through bank accounts,” said Davor Tremac, General Manager for Southeast Europe Region at Uber. According to statistical data from Zagreb, about 91% of people are using the Uber on a daily basis due to drivers’ flexibility. On the other hand, Uber has also received some great feedback from tourists. They often say that by using Uber with a driver who lives in Zagreb, they feel like being on a guided tour.
